Thoughts on the NBA Playoffs – Round 1

Western Conference
dmav_pms5.jpg gswar_pms5.jpg Yikes. Do the Mavs need a PG or what? The Warriors got lucky. How many years has it been since Baron Davis played this many games in season? In the last 5 seasons (including this one) he’s averaged only 56 games/season. High risk, high reward, I guess.

IMO, Monta Ellis was the biggest surprise in the NBA this season.

Nellie’s a really good coach. Too bad he didn’t stay with the Bucks — and too bad Dirk never came to Milwaukee. One of the biggest trade blunders ever.

ujazz_pms.jpg hroc_pms5.jpg I’m rooting for the Jazz to win this series. I’m not a Tracy McGrady fan. I’ve liked the Jazz and Sloan since the John Stockton & Karl Malone days. It was a well oiled pick-and-roll machine back then.

What the heck happened to AK47 this year? He was getting dropped all over the place in fantasy land this year. Millsap’s been a nice consistent piece of the puzzle for the Jazz this year.

saspurs_pms5.jpg dnug_pms5.jpg Glad the Spurs beat the All-Thug Teamâ„¢. Melo & AI is enough unless you remember Najera and his Bill Laimbeer-esque years at Oklahoma.

Can’t stand George Karl, either. Ray Allen should have never been traded from the Bucks to the Sonics for a washed up Gary Payton and Desmond Mason (in 2003). Mason was OK, but he’s not Ray Allen.

psun_pms5.jpg lalaker_pms5.jpg Kobe the one-man-band (henceforth OMB) couldn’t handle it.Well, duh.

I thought the Mavs were going to win everything, now I think the Suns and the real-MVP Steve Nash are going to win it all.

Eastern Conference
dpistons_pms.jpg omag_pms5.jpg Ho-hum.The Pistons, who are a really good, hardened team and too much for the young Magic (with the exception of old man Grant Hill)Is J.J. Reddick a bust or what?
mheat_pms5.jpg cbull_pms5.jpg The fact that the Bulls won this series after Ben Wallace went 7 for 8 from the charity stripe makes me giggle. Yes, Wallace really did shoot about 40% from the stripe this season. What a way for the Heat to go down. LOL. What a poke in the eye for Heat fans worldwide. Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah.

I wasn’t big on the Bulls during the Jordan years, but since Hinrich got there, I’ve been following them. Kirk’s hustle makes that team go. Gotta love the Kansas guy.

trap_pms5.jpg njnet_pms5.jpg I thought the Raps might have a chance against the aging Nets. It’s amazing to me that both Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter had a healthy second half of the season.

The Raptor’s playoff exit was a sad ending to a pretty good season. I thought Bargnani was going to be a bust. Guess not.

Former Bucks PG, TJ Ford actually played a full season.

ccavs_pms5.jpg wwiz_pms.jpg The Wizards are nothing without Gilbert Arenas.

I wish Lebron James had more of a supporting cast. With a few more good teammates he could lead them to the finals. I love his game. Unselfish superstar. My kinda player.

Man, I like your takes, with the exception of ‘the real-mvp’ comment.

Ha, I look foward to get your take on RD 2.
I’m picking SA to take down ‘the real mvp’ as well as the Jazz over …..well you know who, I can’t even bring myself to say their name. In the east, it’ll be Lebron & Co. aswell as a more experienced Detroit team, sorry Big Ben, I wish it wasn’t so.
