My Top 10 Annoying Public Figures

The List

  • Keith Olbermann — this guy is the epitome of obnoxious
  • Hillary Clinton — like fingernails on the proverbial chalkboard
  • Rosie O’Donnell — see note on Keith Olbermann, replace guy with, uh…something
  • Kirsten Dunst — she’s smoked one too many doobies
  • Al Gore –  how could Heisman trophy winner and Internet inventor not be on this list?
  • Michael Moore — I wish someone would do a “documentary” about him
  • Cindy Sheehan — glad she’s been out of the spotlight lately
  • Lenny Dawson — should retire yesterday from broadcasting
  • Jim Rome — his shtick is old and otherwise lame
  • Katie Couric — I can’t believe she’s still hosting the CBS Evening News.  Ugh.

Dishonorable Mention

  • Billy Packer — thankfully former CBS basketball commentator
  • Oprah Winfrey — talk about the cult of personality
  • Tom Cruise — uh, Scientology

I am done with baseball

My prized George Brett autograph from the 80’s aside, I’m done with baseball.

We headed to Kauffman Stadium last night to watch the Royals and the Tigers.  We witnessed one of the most lackluster and overall pathetic games I’ve ever seen out of the Royals. The crowd of 27,000+ got more excited about the hard hat ball shuffle, the kiss cam and totally lame to hot dog race — which, BTW, mustard was as embarrassing as the home team.

A stupid balk and a hit batter by Kyle Davies was apparently all Detroit needed to kick the Royals to the curb.

Three hits?   Atrocious.

I’m calling out Mike Aviles for not diving for that grounder near second base and for bouncing that easy throw to first.

Other than the family time, the highlight for me was my really good bag of Spitz sunflower seeds.

Ho-hum.

Bring on the NBA and NFL.

Frustrations with Google Docs

Google Spreadsheets

  1. Insert copied cells — Seems like such a small thing, but I need to do it all the stinkin’ time.
  2. Fill down with a double-click — This is an Excel trick that I use heavily.  Not so in Spreadsheets.
  3. Sort by multiple columns — Can’t do it.  sorting in general is very slow, IMO.
  4. Autofilter — Can’t do it.  There’s a gadget that attempts this functionality, but it’s buggy.

Google Docs

  1. Bullets, ordered lists & outlining — indenting and unindenting gets you in a mess real quick.  It’s frustrating to have to either a) edit the HTML or b) clear formatting and redo all of the indenting.
  2. Outline view/pane — I use this a lot in Word — it builds a hyperlink view of your document based on heading styles.  I wish Google Docs had something similar.  The new Table of Contents component is nice, but I need something that helps me jump around inside long documents.

Thoughts on Michael Phelps

Pretty amazing.
The two close finishes were definitely the highlight.
His freestyle stroke doesn’t look fast, but it is.
He’s a terrible interview.
Where’s his dad?

Harleys and iPods

Isn’t it interesting how similar the marketing is for Harley Davidson Motorcycles and Apple products?

I don’t know of any Harley owner that doesn’t exhibit the same zealous loyalty that Apple fanboys do.

Agree?
