Backups and the sounds of hard drive FAIL

If you’re in the ineviable position of having a failing hard drive in your machine, here’s a site that will help you diagnose the situation:

Failing hard drive sounds – Datacent.com

I hope you you’ve been doing regular backups.

I’ve gone the hardcore route using rsync via Cygwin with Windows Task Scheduler.  I also used the free version of Syncback SE.

I recommend Cobian Backup, however.

Cobian is good because it lets me keep 4 copies of full backups on my external hard drive.  It also runs as a service.

Glad I had a good backup a few weeks ago when I had to reformat.
