Thoughts on the VP debate

Well, honestly, I was nervous for Governor Palin going into the debate.

I was pleasantly surprised.

I thought Biden made it through without sticking his foot in his mouth.

The key things that I saw:

  • Governor Palin hit it right on the head when she called out Biden for looking back on the last 8 years and blaming Bush for everything.  McCain is clearly not Bush.   The Obama campaign has done everything they can to cast McCain as a warmonger.  Really, c’mon.  The dude’s been a P.O.W.  He knows the horrors of war and certainly has a better perspective than Bush in that regard.    Not only have they labeled McCain (and Republicans for that matter) as warmongers, but they’ve also generalized ad nauseum that Republicans only care about rich businessmen and are insanely uncaring and black-and-white about social issues.  I don’t think that’s true about most Republicans.  I’m glad she drove home the differences in a firm, yet lighthearted and personable way.
  • She likes the VP debates because she’s not being filtered by the Mainstream Media.  Which, incidentally, I feel is one of the main reason why the name George W. Bush is like a curse word around the world.  The Mainstream Media looks the other way with regards to Obama’s past, his supporters, his policies, his liberal agenda.  Obama’s just an empty suit.  He’s Bill Clinton without the experience.  If the Mainstream Media and the Democrats didn’t have “8 years of failed _____ policies”, what would there be?  Not much, IMO.  People want “change” because Obama is there and he’s not Bush.
  • I’m glad the whole debate wasn’t mean-spirited.  I think that’s because of Governor Palin.

My thoughts on the debate

  • Obama has plenty of good ideas, but he didn’t seem like he had a shred of insight into the realities of being the leader of the free world.
  • I thought Obama spewed lots of chic Bush-blame toward McCain and didn’t really speak with much vision.
  • To his credit, Obama did his best to not sound ignorant.  I thought he used phrases like “let me be clear” and his 1, 2, 3 points to figure out what to say.
  • In the first part of the debate, I thought McCain showed a lot of restraint and didn’t bite on a lot of the more ridiculous accusations that Obama was tossing.
  • As I twittered earlier, I thought McCain spoke with vision and conviction, while Obama whined about “8 years of failed ___ policies.”  I want details.
  • Barack’s “oh, I have a bracelet, too” response was really lame.  At least remember the dude’s name.  Sheesh.
  • I wished that McCain would have defended his tax plan better.  A lot of Obama’s accusations went unchallenged.  I’ve read enough about the advantages McCain’s tax plan.
  • I just don’t think Obama can handle being president of our country.  Everyone knows that Bill Clinton is a darn good public speaker.  People say the same thing about Obama.  But you know what, Clinton is going to be remembered for lying and screwing around with Monica Lewinsky.  It’s about the substance of the character not eloquent words dripping with honey.

Obama disses the wounded troops in Germany

Not only is Obama is acting like he’s already president and, in essence, trotting the globe promising that the U.S. will give, what I feel is an unhealthy amount of “say” to foreign governments regarding U.S. foreign policy, but now he’s reneged on plans to visit to wounded troops in Germany

it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign

ORLY?

Shock:NY Times Outs CIA interrogator

Looks like the NY Times has done our country another grave disservice.  This time revealing the identity of a CIA interrogator.  (No link for you, NY Times!)

Is it any wonder that the White House is forced to play games with the mainstream media?

Bob Dole pokes Scott McClellan in the eye

Check out Bob Dole’s choice morsels for Scott McClellan. Here’s an excerpt.

In my nearly 36 years of public service I’ve known of a few like you. No doubt you will ‘clean up’ as the liberal anti-Bush press will promote your belated concerns with wild enthusiasm. When the money starts rolling in you should donate it to a worthy cause, something like, ‘Biting The Hand That Fed Me.’ Another thought is to weasel your way back into the White House if a Democrat is elected. That would provide a good set up for a second book deal in a few years.

Dole explains his motivation for speaking up here.

More Real Obama

[obama old school]

Since I’m already an ad-hominem guerrilla, I thought I’d dish out some more on the Real Barack Obama.

In his own words
Obama’s views on homosexuality and abortion (.wav downloads). More commentary here.
Obama on national security (aka the disarming of America).  More commentary here (disclaimer: language).

Other
Obama’s lengthy record in the Senate
The Audacity of Barack Obama

Coming Soon: The Real Obama

[obama]
Now that Barack Obama is likely to squish Hillary and win the Democratic nomination, it’s time for the real Barack Obama to step forward. With so much talk about change you would think that he (or someone else in the Mainstream Media for that matter) would talk about what he stands for and the positions he’s taken on issues in his brief political career. Hillary isn’t going to trot out some of is more eyebrow raising principles and associations, because, honestly, most of his beliefs fall in line with those of the Democrat party.

Once the nomination is official, the GOP won’t hold back. Because Obama is so dreamily charismatic and the Mainstream Media swoons for him, it will end up as a double-team against McCain.

I digress. Back to Obama’s stand on some of the issues that concern me:

Abortion - supports Roe v. Wade, against the partial birth abortion ban, supports embryonic stem cell research, supports the interests of NARAL (no link for you!) and Planned Parenthood (no link for you!)

Civil Rights - believes being gay or lesbian is not a choice, thinks the gay rights movement is like the civil rights movement, support affirmative action in schools and government, did not support a ban on flag burning, voted against the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage in 2006, supports the interests of the ACLU (no link for you!) , suggests that the Bible tolerates homosexuality in his Audacity of Hope (no link for you!) book,

Energy - does not believe we should expand oil drilling on our own land, supports increased ethanol usage, believes global warming is a real threat

Foreign policy/War on Terror/Homeland Security - believes we should pull our troops out of Iraq, willing to meet with foreign dictators one-on-one, supports a larger role for NATO in world affairs, sees China as a competitor and not an enemy, supports military action in Pakistan, supports providing Habeas Corpus for detainees of the US

Health Care - supports universal health care (except for babies; see Abortion section above), supports decriminalization of drugs

Immigration - supports giving drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, supports allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security

Taxes - against permanently repealing the death tax, generally against making tax cuts permanent

Other - officially endorsed by MoveOn.org (no link for you!) , voted the Most Liberal Senator in 2007 by the National Journal, apparently doesn’t care for the Star Spangled Banner, stopped wearing is US flag pin as sign of patriotism, has been tied to the Nation of Islam, has plagarized Spike Lee movies, has been linked to crook developer Tony Rezko
