Sprignostications #4, #5 - The Kansas City Chiefs

Well, I’m not doing to good on my Sprignostications.  I’m 1 for 3 which makes the Sprignostication Accuracy Rating a stunning 33%.

Well, here’s a safe one.  After the atrocious loss to the Raiders on Sunday, I’m sprignosticating that the Chiefs will win 3 or less games this year.  Here’s how I see it breaking down:

NE - Loss
OAK - Loss

ATL - Loss
DEN - Loss
CAR - Loss
TEN - Loss
NYJ - Loss
TB - Loss
SD - Loss
NO - Loss
BUF - Loss
OAK - Win
DEN - Loss
SD - Loss
MIA - Win
CIN - Win

Also, I’m going to go out on a limb to say that either GM Carl Peterson or coach Herm Edwards will not be around next year.

I am done with baseball

My prized George Brett autograph from the 80’s aside, I’m done with baseball.

We headed to Kauffman Stadium last night to watch the Royals and the Tigers.  We witnessed one of the most lackluster and overall pathetic games I’ve ever seen out of the Royals. The crowd of 27,000+ got more excited about the hard hat ball shuffle, the kiss cam and totally lame to hot dog race — which, BTW, mustard was as embarrassing as the home team.

A stupid balk and a hit batter by Kyle Davies was apparently all Detroit needed to kick the Royals to the curb.

Three hits?   Atrocious.

I’m calling out Mike Aviles for not diving for that grounder near second base and for bouncing that easy throw to first.

Other than the family time, the highlight for me was my really good bag of Spitz sunflower seeds.

Ho-hum.

Bring on the NBA and NFL.

Thoughts on Michael Phelps

Pretty amazing.
The two close finishes were definitely the highlight.
His freestyle stroke doesn’t look fast, but it is.
He’s a terrible interview.
Where’s his dad?

OKC Thunder !?

Well now that the new Oklahoma City NBA team has a new name, makes me wonder what they’re going market it.

My top 10 hobbies for Brett Favre

Since Brett Favre has shown everyone that he’s not mature enough to have a life outside of football, I’ve decided that he needs a hobby.  Here’s my top 10.

  1. Charity work - His wife is a cancer survivor and his home state was devastated by Katrina.  Plenty of charity work there.
  2. His two daughters - I’m sure they could use some dad time.  It’s probably too late for their 19 year-old.
  3. —- INTERRUPTED —-

Silly me, I’ve already got the rest of this list in my Top 10 Alternatives to Dogfighting post from 2007.   Everyone knows there’s a correlation to football and dogfighting…

Gilbert Arenas:”Every player hates Milwaukee”

In case you didn’t catch Agent Zero’s recent post:

HAHAHA! Oh man, now that is funny. When I heard that, I started laughing. Oh man, did I start laughing. You know why? Because every player hates Milwaukee. Nobody wants to live in Milwaukee. I’m sorry, Milwaukee, to come down hard on you, but no one in the NBA wants to play in Milwaukee. From him going from New Jersey, actually from New York (because he lives in New York), from New York to Milwaukee is like going … let’s just say it’s not going to sit well with you. That was a funny one when I heard that one. I know Yi is happy though.

Well isn’t that going to make for an interesting Bucks vs Wizards series next season?

Hope Redd lights him up, Jefferson forces him into bad shots and Bogut rejects all of ones he manages to get in the air.

I don’t think he can live up to his new $111M contract.

Big 12 Fans Rejoice: Billy Packer is OUT

College basketball commentator Billy Packer, who has announced 34 consecutive Final Fours on network television and created a few controversies along the way, will not be returning to CBS for a 28th season, The Miami Herald has learned.

More here.

Props for Kevin Harlan

Nice blog post here.

I would much rather hear Kevin Harlan call games instead of Billy Packer, Dick Enberg, John Thompson, and yes, even, Marv Albert.

I love it when he does Chiefs games, since he’s a hometown guy.

Bucks Ramon Sessions and his 24 dimes

Yes, it is a Bucks franchise record. Too bad they lost the game 151-135 (not a typo).

About the possibility of the Sonics not moving to OKC

Man, things are crazy in NBA blogging circles about former Sonics owner and Starbucks gazillionaire Howard Schultz’s lawsuit against new owner Clay Bennett.

Apparently, there’s a real possibility that it could keep the Sonics in Seattle.

I’m watching this with great interest because I don’t want the Sonics to move to OKC.   I think the chances are less likely that KC will get an NBA team in the Sprint Center if there’s a team in OKC.

Sadly, they probably will move to OKC because:

  1. NBA Commissioner David Stern has publicly supported the move
  2. OKC taxpayers just OK’d a huge stadium renovation
  3. NBA owners are about to vote on the relocation

If they don’t move, I might break down and go buy a Venti Caramel Macchiato at Starbucks to celebrate.

[fingers crossed]

Kyle Korver taking a charge

[korver taking the charge]

As my luck would have it, right after I do a post about Kyle Kover, this nice picture of him shows up on fan sites everywhere.

Well, I like to think he’s bracing himself to take a charge and not having a bout of wimpy giggling.

I like Kyle Korver (SG, UTA)

[kyle korver] Check out the cool interview here.

Not only is Kyle Korver money from the charity stripe (career 87.7%), he’s also an all around nice guy.

Reminds me of my main man (h/t Ahmad Rashad), Ray Allen.

What a breath of fresh air in the NBA. There should be more players like him.

Why the Patriots lost the Superbowl

P-R-I-D-E

Belichick goes for it on 4th and 13 on the Giants 31 instead of kicking a 49 yard field goal.

Then to top it all off, Belichick leaves the field before the game is over.

I’m glad the Giants won.

Shaq-ing the Heat?

[shaq steel]There’s lot’s of talk about Shaq retiring floating around out there these days. Not likely, according to Shaq himself.

I’ve never been much of a Shaq fan. I think he has motivation issues, which manifests itself in conditioning and, duh, free-throws (career 52.4%).

And then there’s all of his sheriff-ing, television shows and movies. His movies speak for themselves — there’s Kazaam, Steel, Scary Movie 4, Blue Chips, etc. I think you know what I mean.

I’m sure there were good reasons why the Lakers traded him to the Heat, too.

The real problem is Shaq’s 5-year, $100M contract signed in 2005. I mean, c’mon, he had been in the league for 14 years in 2005. Blame the owner of the Heat, the front office and Pat Riley for that one.

What’s missing from Wii Sports

Here are some things that I think can be improved in Wii Sports.

  • Stats! The message board is not a good place to view my personal best scores. I’d like to see a table of all Miis on the console and their best scores in each sport.
  • A way to turn off the strap warnings and things that slow the game down. I know they’re necessary, but once my Mii has acknowledged them, don’t show them again.
  • It would be cool if some functionality could be unlocked when you get to a certain skill level in all of the sports. I know bowling pros get a different color ball, but what about the other sports?
  • Tennis - when you’re not playing against the computer, there are some unhittable service returns. It’s not quite fair.
  • Baseball
    • It’d be sweet to pick the players on our team from our pool of Miis.
    • I know the minimalist nature of Wii Sports is what makes it cool, but some more action on the baseball players would be nice, especially fielding. For example, if you hit a line drive to first base, the fielder should step on the base.
    • It’d also be cool to be able to position yourself in the batter’s box.
  • Golf - If there’s one of the sports that a movement that is counter-intuitive, it’s golf. Maybe it’s that I don’t like golf in general.

Fabio…err…Walter gets traded

If you’re just waking up, Walter Herrmann and Primoz Brezec were traded to the Pistons for Nazr Mohammed.

Hope Walt gets to play some more now that he’s a Piston.
