Top 5 SNL cast members - yours and mine

Question: Who are your 5 five SNL cast members and why?

  1. Kristin Wiig - Her Penelope character cracks me up — every single time.
  2. Darrell Hammond - I think he’s spot on with his impressions, especially of Bill Clinton.
  3. Jimmy Fallon - nothing beats the Fallon in the Cowbell Skit.
  4. Will Ferrell - Not a big fan of any of his movies except for Stranger Than Fiction, but how can you not have him in the top five for his Cowbell fame.
  5. Chris Farley - All I have to say is: Chippendales with Patrick Swayze and A Van Down By the River.

The “sex-sells” slippery slope

Being the father of a 11 year-old daughter and a 9 year-old son, I’m not all that happy with what’s on TV and at the movies lately. Seems like the entertainment industry has slipped a little farther down the “sex sells” slippery slope.

Need I say more about the trampy Sex and the City movie — aka “the national IQ test for women“?

Have you noticed that the porn industry is a big part of mixed martial arts? Kimbo Slice’s porn sponsor, Tito Ortiz’s girlfriend, porn queen Jenna Jameson, etc.

Don’t look now, but it’s becoming more prime-time every week.

Coming Soon: The Real Obama

[obama]
Now that Barack Obama is likely to squish Hillary and win the Democratic nomination, it’s time for the real Barack Obama to step forward. With so much talk about change you would think that he (or someone else in the Mainstream Media for that matter) would talk about what he stands for and the positions he’s taken on issues in his brief political career. Hillary isn’t going to trot out some of is more eyebrow raising principles and associations, because, honestly, most of his beliefs fall in line with those of the Democrat party.

Once the nomination is official, the GOP won’t hold back. Because Obama is so dreamily charismatic and the Mainstream Media swoons for him, it will end up as a double-team against McCain.

I digress. Back to Obama’s stand on some of the issues that concern me:

Abortion - supports Roe v. Wade, against the partial birth abortion ban, supports embryonic stem cell research, supports the interests of NARAL (no link for you!) and Planned Parenthood (no link for you!)

Civil Rights - believes being gay or lesbian is not a choice, thinks the gay rights movement is like the civil rights movement, support affirmative action in schools and government, did not support a ban on flag burning, voted against the constitutional ban of same-sex marriage in 2006, supports the interests of the ACLU (no link for you!) , suggests that the Bible tolerates homosexuality in his Audacity of Hope (no link for you!) book,

Energy - does not believe we should expand oil drilling on our own land, supports increased ethanol usage, believes global warming is a real threat

Foreign policy/War on Terror/Homeland Security - believes we should pull our troops out of Iraq, willing to meet with foreign dictators one-on-one, supports a larger role for NATO in world affairs, sees China as a competitor and not an enemy, supports military action in Pakistan, supports providing Habeas Corpus for detainees of the US

Health Care - supports universal health care (except for babies; see Abortion section above), supports decriminalization of drugs

Immigration - supports giving drivers licenses for illegal immigrants, supports allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security

Taxes - against permanently repealing the death tax, generally against making tax cuts permanent

Other - officially endorsed by MoveOn.org (no link for you!) , voted the Most Liberal Senator in 2007 by the National Journal, apparently doesn’t care for the Star Spangled Banner, stopped wearing is US flag pin as sign of patriotism, has been tied to the Nation of Islam, has plagarized Spike Lee movies, has been linked to crook developer Tony Rezko

Shaq-ing the Heat?

[shaq steel]There’s lot’s of talk about Shaq retiring floating around out there these days. Not likely, according to Shaq himself.

I’ve never been much of a Shaq fan. I think he has motivation issues, which manifests itself in conditioning and, duh, free-throws (career 52.4%).

And then there’s all of his sheriff-ing, television shows and movies. His movies speak for themselves — there’s Kazaam, Steel, Scary Movie 4, Blue Chips, etc. I think you know what I mean.

I’m sure there were good reasons why the Lakers traded him to the Heat, too.

The real problem is Shaq’s 5-year, $100M contract signed in 2005. I mean, c’mon, he had been in the league for 14 years in 2005. Blame the owner of the Heat, the front office and Pat Riley for that one.

Happy Feet = Environmentalist Propaganda

happyfeet2006-1.jpg

Watched Happy Feet last night.

I’m sorry, but it was a load of environmentalist, secular crap.

(Let me just say this before you get too worked up: I’m not anti-environment. I’m big on good stewardship of the environment. I’m an Eagle Scout and anyone that knows me knows one of my biggest pet peeves is littering — just ask my kids. However, environmentalism is not my god and the movement is not my religion.)

I digress.

This movie reminded me of the overt, tree-hugging drivel in Ferngully.

Not only that, but nearly every song had some sort of sexual innuendo in it. How about Salt n’ Pepa’s “Let’s talk about Sex” and Boyz II Men’s “I’ll make Love to You.” Oh, yeah — in a kid’s movie.

I also thought it was:

  • derogatory to Latinos
  • anti-religious/anti-God/anti-religious establishment (e.g. the Elders of the High Council)
  • pro-gay (Mumble was just “born that way”)

Add this one to the should-have-never-let-the-kids-watch-it list.

If you want more details about what I’m talking about, check out this Screen It review or this Christian Spotlight review.

Ugh.

Rocky Balboa finds redemption

How about this quote from Sly Stallone in an interview regarding his new Rocky movie coming out soon:

The more I go to church, and the more I turn myself over to the process of believing in Jesus and listening to His Word and having Him guide my hand, I feel as though the pressure is off me now.

Wink by DebugMode

I was looking for a utility to create some video tutorials and I stumbled on this little gem. Wink will allow you to record what’s going on on your screen, edit it by adding titles and narration, then save it as a Flash movie or video.

I recorded a Flash video on how to prep PowerPoint songs for my church.

MRC:The Trashing of the Christ

The networks did nearly everything they could to trash The Passion and its traditional portrayal of Christ and the crucifixion,” said MRC President Brent Bozell. “The same networks, however, have bent over backwards to promote and applaud the viciously anti-Christian bigotry presented in the Da Vinci Code book and movie. When it comes to trashing Christ and Christians, the networks are all for it.

Having read the Da Vinci Code book, I have to agree that it is definitely anti-Christian. However, it is also, most definitely fiction.

This controversy is far from over. Just wait until Angels and Demons hits the theatres. It’s very much anti-Catholic. But, you know what? It’s fiction, too.
