Thoughts about Google and Sparrow

I’ve read several articles and blog posts recently about Google’s acquisition of Sparrow.

I’m on the fence. Some great technology needs deep pockets to get the next level and reach the masses. Other times these deals are for strategic competitive advantage, possibly at the expense of you and me — or the passionate entrepreneur.

I’m certainly not keen on stifling the innovations of the entrepreneurs in our midst. My family’s full of small business owners. I get it.

In fact, it really bothered me how the LimitNone’s gMove got shafted by Google back in the day.

However, thinking generally, these types of acquisitions can be good. They can motivate other startups and provide lasting innovation in the marketplace.

Help me out. I’m trying not to be so dogmatic that I can only look at this as a negative, while ignoring the opportunities.
